PLANETARY INTIMACIES is both an artist name and a long-term artistic research practice. Through painting, installation, and poetic gestures, the project explores how landscape can be approached – not as motif, but as a fragile, relational system shaped by climate, time, and human perception.

At the intersection of art and research, it investigates our entanglement with shifting terrains in the Anthropocene. The work engages with transformation, erosion, and resilience – asking how landscapes remember, dissolve, and reshape the ways we see and situate ourselves within them.

The project unfolds across glaciers, mountains, and meteorite impact zones – where planetary forces imprint both the visible and the invisible, tracing quiet stories of intimacy and change.

Owning the Fractures – Planetary Intimacies

Deep within the glacier lies a time capsule, containing a glacier crack frottage. As the ice melts, this capsule – or what remains of it – will resurface. This publication is its echo.
Between 2019 and 2024, the artistic research project Planetary Intimacies developed a body of work that approaches melting glaciers as sites of transformation, vulnerability, and planetary entanglement. Working alone in remote ice regions, the artist created large-scale paintings, installations, and process-based works that blur the boundaries between landscape, body, and data.

At the core of this practice lies a poetic and physical response to the Anthropocene. The glacier becomes not a motif, but a place of resonance. Traces of volcanic ash, fracture lines, and meltwater are translated into material gestures – challenging conventions of landscape painting, authorship, and environmental representation.

This publication brings together key works and reflections from this five-year process. The book itself becomes part of the gesture: a time capsule in book form. With texts by Wolfgang Ullrich and Joshua Groß.
