Welcome to the presentation of Hosting Space, a book by Maike Statz, published by Hordaland Kunstsenter and Errant Bodies Press. Based on Maike’s exhibition Hosting Space (2023) the book is an in-depth exploration of hosting in the context of art institutions. It invites readers to reconsider how access, support, and gathering are shaped by the spaces we inhabit, and how these spaces are created.
Hosting Space is an active archive, something that not only records and shares what has happened but also expands upon this material. The book consists of a series of reflections by Maike Statz, interviews with Staci Bu Shea, Océane Vé-Réveillac, and César Reyes Nájera and includes a wide selection of images, documentation and notes. In addition to a hand-sewn bookmark, the publication is designed by Francesca Lucchitta and printed and bound at no kiss in Amsterdam. Hosting Space was edited by Mathijs van Geest.
Maike Statz is an interior architect, artist and writer. In her work she explores the relationship between bodies, emotion, identity and space. Informed by feminist and queer practices, Maike investigates spatial inequalities and seeks alternative tools and methods for space-making.
